Hulk Hogan: Real American

I grew up watching WrestleMania with my dad, but I never knew the backstory behind “The Hulk” until I watched this doc.

It tells the story of how Terry Bollea became Hulk Hogan, then shows what that fame cost him.

You Can’t Make This Sh!t Up

  • When Terry first started out wrestling, one of his trainers broke his leg to make a point that he wasn’t good enough to stay in the sport. He came back stronger than ever.
  • Hogan hints that he knows every dark secret from wrestling’s biggest years. At one point, he says he knows “where all the bodies are buried.”

Other Unique Stuff

  • The doc keeps circling back to the split between Terry Bollea and Hulk Hogan. By the end, it feels less like a wrestling story and more like a guy trapped inside a character he created.
  • The doc features Hulk Hogan’s final interview before his death. He says the “Hulk Hogan” character got so big that Terry Bollea almost disappeared inside it.
