Becoming Led Zeppelin

Before they were the biggest rock band on Earth, they were choir boys, blues fanatics, and pub-band veterans trying to make a living.

Thanks to Harrison Lazarus for moving this one up in my queue.

You Can’t Make This Sh!t Up

  • Led Zeppelin formed in August 1968 and then played 139 concerts in 1969 while crisscrossing the U.S. by planes, buses, vans, trains, and cars.
  • Their first jam took place in a small London Soho studio. The four musicians had barely played together before the sound “just exploded.” They knew almost at once that they had found something special.
  • The documentary includes a rare archival audio interview with John Bonham, who almost never spoke publicly before his death in 1980.

Other Unique Stuff

  • Jimmy Page was already a secret rock star. As a teenage session guitarist, he’d played on countless hit records before anyone knew his name.
  • Almost none of early Led Zeppelin was filmed. The filmmakers spent years hunting down forgotten home movies, private film reels, and rare archives to piece together the band’s incredible first two years.

Wrap Up:

If you love classic rock, this is one of the best “how the band came together” documentaries I’ve seen.

Thanks for reading!
