At $2 million an episode, he was the king of TV. Then came the drugs, HIV, the meltdowns, and millions in hush money.
Now he’s crawling back.

You Can’t Make This Sh!t Up
- At the peak of his drug-fueled mania, Charlie Sheen claims he was spending up to $1 million a night on escorts and substances. He still showed up to shoot “Two and a Half Men” the next morning like it was nothing.
- In 2011, Sheen found out he was HIV-positive. He kept it secret for years. He quietly paid an estimated $10 million in hush money to stop people from exposing his diagnosis.

My Review of “aka Mr. Charlie Sheen”
The Setup
Charlie Sheen was the face of CBS, the son of Martin Sheen, the star of “Platoon,” and the king of “Two and a Half Men.” This doc tracks the rise, the drug-fueled fall, the HIV reveal, and a sober version of Charlie now reflecting on it all.
More Highlights from the Doc
- The doc shows how his infamous “tiger blood” media meltdown spiraled into a career collapse. He was fired from “Two and a Half Men,” lost custody battles, and was blacklisted from most of Hollywood.
- Charlie talks about being raised by Martin Sheen while watching his dad collapse from alcoholism. And how that shaped his own addictions. He started drinking at age 9.
- Emilio Estevez, Martin Sheen, and ex-wives like Denise Richards appear on camera. They discuss watching Charlie spiral as they try to co-parent and protect their kids.
- The doc doesn’t shy away from the legal drama. Multiple women threatened to expose his HIV status, and Charlie admits it felt like he was “paying ransom” just to stay off TMZ.
- We see behind-the-scenes footage of Sheen post-breakdown, as he tries to make amends, stay sober, and repair fractured relationships with his children.
- His 7-year streak of sobriety (as of 2024) is a central through-line—he’s clear-eyed, self-deprecating, and finally seems to grasp the damage he caused during his self-proclaimed “Adonis DNA” phase.
Cameos
- Martin Sheen appears several times. He breaks down, recalling how Charlie would disappear for days, saying, “I thought we were going to lose him permanently.”
- Denise Richards shares how she learned of Charlie’s HIV status after their divorce. She still let him live in her guest house so he could stay close to their kids.
- Jon Cryer, his “Two and a Half Men” co-star, offers measured insight into how Charlie could deliver Emmy-worthy work while battling inner demons nobody on set fully saw coming.
Lesser-Known Details from the Doc
- Charlie says his “tiger blood” press tour was done entirely sober. He wasn’t high, just manic and untreated. He now sees it as an undiagnosed bipolar episode.
- Despite earning over $125 million during “Two and a Half Men,” Sheen admits most of it is gone. Legal payouts, settlements, and drug spending wiped out his fortune.
- His comeback strategy involved pitching TV shows about addiction recovery, but networks didn’t trust him—even when sober—because of lingering insurance issues and his public image.
- Charlie now lives in Malibu with his dog and sons, surfs daily, and says the best part of sobriety is being “boring as hell on purpose.”
Wrap Up
It’s one of the rawest celebrity confessions I’ve seen in years. If you only remember the “tiger blood” headlines, this doc shows what you missed behind them.
