Kiss on the best bands that opened for them

I love Kiss’s direct answer to the awesome question of who the best warmup band was for them.

I just added this to my list of “Best Press Conferences”.

You can watch it for free on YouTube by clicking the video embed above.

And if you like Kiss, here is my list of “The Best Kiss Documentaries” (I’m up to 7 of them!).

My Summary of the Kiss Press Conference

In order, here are the 3 answers (I love Simmons’ the most — crystal clear).

Gene Simmons picks AC/DC:

“If you want to talk about a memorable set—AC/DC on their first tour. A band that didn’t pay attention. We share the same philosophy: no matter what any other band is doing, to thine own self be true.

I’ve said it before, but it’s more true now than ever—a lot of people look the same and act the same and do the same thing. In rock and country, there’s a lot of sameness going on. Every once in a while, you see a band like AC/DC—nobody’s like them.

We’d like to think we’re unique in that way too. Unique, to have your own fingerprint, because Mother Nature knows best—there’s no other fingerprint on Earth like us. And bands should march to the beat of their own drummer. See what I did there?”

New Drummer Eric Singer says:

“I thought Rush was the best. I saw Rush open for KISS—I thought they were the coolest opening band, especially back in those days. What year was that? ‘Working Man’… It was the Fly by Night tour, and KISS had Hotter Than Hell out. And Rush had just got Neil Peart, and they had Fly by Night. I thought, for us, Rush was the most exciting.”

Paul Stanley says:

“Priest—[Judas Priest] were phenomenal. Bob Seger, you know, we can go down the list. Bob Seger got his first gold album on tour with us. Mellencamp—John Cougar Mellencamp. Tom Petty—the list goes on and on.”
