- Amy Carlson told followers she was “Mother God” and had lived hundreds of previous lives. Her belief system mixed New Age spirituality, conspiracy theories, aliens and famous dead people.
- Amy’s followers believed her failing body wasn’t simply dying. They thought she was absorbing humanity’s pain and that her death would lead to her evacuation by a UFO and help save humanity.
- After Amy died in 2021, her followers kept her body. They eventually took it to Colorado, where authorities found it 12 days later.

Director’s Note: Hannah Olson directed the three-part series. She also directed HBO’s “Baby God” and “The Last Cruise.” Olson started production only weeks after Amy’s body was discovered and built much of the series from the group’s enormous video archive.

- The series runs just three episodes—about 56, 58 and 54 minutes each.
- Olson tells much of the story through current and former believers instead of packing the series with cult experts explaining what viewers should think.
- The group’s own livestream obsession ends up creating the documentary’s best evidence. We aren’t hearing secondhand stories about what Amy told followers. In many cases, we can actually watch the group saying and doing it.
Wrap Up:
“Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God” has one of the craziest opening scenes I’ve seen. And the backstory gets even stranger. If you like cult docs where the members filmed almost everything themselves, this is an easy watch.
