Review of “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard”

In this 6-part series, you’ll wonder: Can you love someone to death?

Courtroom battles and psychological twists will keep you hooked.

Some levity in this heinous story:

As a parent, I’m wondering what’s more dangerous than an abusive mom faking illnesses? A daughter with internet access and a thing for bad boys.

Seriously, both paths can (and did) lead to a horrific outcome.

You’re about to get a closer look at this strange story.

Here’s a brief summary of the episodes.

I found the first 4 the best (with Episode 1 the very best).

Born a Prisoner
42 min.
On the brink of her parole hearing, after nearly seven years behind bars for her role in her mother’s murder, Gypsy Rose Blanchard is set to unveil startling new truths and secrets that have remained hidden until now.

On the Run (
42 min.
Displaced by the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Gypsy and her mother, Dee Dee, find a new home in Springfield, Missouri. It is here that Gypsy faces a harsh reality: her dependency on painkillers.

I Pulled the Trigger
42 min.
After fleeing her oppressive home, Gypsy is coaxed back by Dee Dee with false promises of liberty and autonomy. Once home, she finds herself confined to her bed, restrained by chains, while her mother employs sinister voodoo practices against her.

Only Way Out
42 min.
In her desperation to free herself from Dee Dee’s control, Gypsy turns to Nicholas Godejohn, a man she met on a Christian dating site. Together, they concoct a deadly plot to end her mother’s life and start anew.

The 5th and 6th episodes below trail off a bit. I think Lifetime could have made this a 4-parter.

But here’s a brief summary of the final two:

Secret Engagement
42 min.
Gypsy divulges a transformative secret she has concealed from even her nearest kin: her engagement. Recounting her court appearance for her mother’s murder, she reveals her extensive web of deceit to an astonished community.

I Do. Or Do I?
42 min.
With her wedding looming, Gypsy grapples with doubts and past relationships that threaten her forthcoming marriage. As relatives urge her to delay the ceremony, her fiancé steps in, advocating for the marriage to proceed as planned.
