The Isle of Man TT Motorcycle Race just might be the deadliest race on Earth (231 riders have lost their lives).
It takes place on the Isle of Man (in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland) and is motorcycle legend.
This beast of a race wakes up every May or June since 1907, tearing through the Isle like a motorcycle symphony.
Think “Fast and Furious” but with more tea and crumpets vibes.
“TT3D: Closer to the Edge” follows the leading riders in the 2010 race.
It’s tradition, speed, and a touch of madness rolled into one.
I rank TT3D #1 in my The 20 Best Motorcycle Documentaries series (narrowly beating #2, 3 and 4).

Where to Watch
It’s awesome that you can now watch TT3D: Closer To The Edge for free on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihH5uDUaqRE (it used to be you could only watch the movie on DVD).
Note: I turned on the English subtitles because some of the thick British/Irish accents were hard to understand. 🙂
My Favorite Parts (includes Spoiler Alerts)
- Guy is brutally honest. He admits “wanking off” (that’s masturbating for those of us outside the U.K.) around races. Guy says: “It’s not a crime, is it, to have a wank?”
- There are 5 races over culminating with a senior TT.
- 231 riders have lost their lives on the TT.
- In 2009, while Nick Crowe was leading the race, a hare ran on to the track, causing Nick to crash his side car going 160 miles per hour.
- Paul Dobbs clips a corner and is killed. Rider Martin Loicht is killed shortly after.
- Guy Martin has a fiery accident at 170 miles per hour. Guy survives his fiery crash with a few fractured ribs, punctured lung, chipped vertebrae.
- Ian Hutchinson wins all five races, a first ever in the Isle of Man.
- Jenny Tinmouth is the fastest woman around the course.
